Tasting Notes

An inviting bouquet of warm spices and sweet oak is complemented by hints of mint and sage that add complexity and depth. Layers of red berries—raspberry, red currant, and blackberry—interweave with notes of vanilla, clove, and a cinnamon-spiced woodsy perfume. Floral undertones of red rose, violet, and potpourri add a delicate, aromatic lift. On the palate, sweet red berry fruits take the lead, followed by plush black cherry and blackberry flavors. The body is on the lighter side, showing the character of this vintage and allowing nuanced layers to shine through. Delicate hints of tea leaf and potpourri emerge mid-palate, leading to a silky finish accented by allspice and lasting floral and oak-driven notes. This is the perfect wine for a variety of dishes and social occasions.

“Aromas of blackcurrants, blueberries, tobacco leaves and dried herbs. The palate is full-bodied with finely integrated tannins and balanced acidity. Very well constructed and fresh. Drink or hold.”

    • Technical info
      • Vintage: 2022
      • Alcohol: 14.1%
      • Volume: 750 mL
      • Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon
      • Appellation: Napa Valley
      • Brand: Stags' Leap Winery
      Vintage Notes
The first half of the 2022 harvest started calm and early, with healthy vineyards offering fruit with bright acidity, fruit-forward flavors, and strong yields for white varietals and thin-skinned reds, like Pinot Noir. Then, California experienced a historic heat wave in early September that ramped up the pace of ripening, compelling a fast and furious harvest as winemakers worked to pick fruit at its best quality. Fortunately, strong vines and proactive irrigation helped many vineyards survive the heat. The second half was much more predictable with cooler temperatures through October, so that later- ripening red varieties, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, could develop their full flavor and tannin profile.
