Tasting Notes

Beringer’s 2022 Steinhauer Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon is a jewel-like amethyst color in the glass, and its pungent aromas of crushed gravel, flint, and graphite also seem to be mined from the earth. Sensationally dark, Howell Mountain fruit flavors of blackberry and black cherry explode on the palate, with sparks of fresh raspberry and cocoa brightening its core. Full-bodied and velvety in texture, strong tannins support the depth of this profoundly rich, concentrated wine through a long, pure finish. Age-worthy for the next 20 years, decant before serving.

    • Technical info
      • Vintage: 2022
      • Alcohol: 14.3%
      • Volume: 750 mL
      • Varietal: 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot
      • Brand: Beringer
      Vintage Notes
The first half of the 2022 harvest started calm and early, with healthy vineyards offering fruit with bright acidity, fruit-forward flavors, and strong yields for white varietals and thin-skinned reds, like Pinot Noir. Then, California experienced a historic heat wave in early September that ramped up the pace of ripening, compelling a fast and furious harvest as winemakers worked to pick fruit at its best quality. Fortunately, strong vines and proactive irrigation helped many vineyards survive the heat. The second half was much more predictable with cooler temperatures through October, so that later-ripening red varieties, such as Cabernet Franc, could develop their full flavor and tannin profile.
