Tasting Notes

This wine exhibits a deep ruby color and an enticing nose of boysenberry, black cherry, and wild huckleberry. On the palate, it mirrors these aromas with an abundance of ripe fruit, enhanced by distinctive minerality from volcanic soil. A mid-palate hint of sweet fruit, typical of the Martini clone, adds both depth and complexity. The wine is well-structured with balanced acidity and finely textured tannins, indicating its remarkable potential for aging. A sophisticated blend of vibrant fruit and nuanced acidity, suggesting an elegant and enduring profile.

James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, January 2025

“Perfumed and pure aromas of dried strawberries, potpourri, citrus peel and cassia bark. The palate is medium-bodied with seamlessly integrated tannins and bright acidity, giving flavors of cherries, dried herbs and forest floor. Exceptionally well balanced, with a refined and pure finish. Predominately Martini clone.”

James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, March 2025

“A pretty red, with lightly mulled mulberry and blackberry notes that are caressing in feel, while light rose hip, iris and red tea notes fill in gently through the finish. Shows a touch more persistence than most in this vintage. Drink now through 2028.”

      Vintage Notes
A near ideal vintage, 2022 produced exceptionally high-quality fruit. Winter began with ample rains and led to cool weather patterns during flowering, which supported naturally limited vine yields. A mild summer set the stage for even ripening, with veraison appearing in early July. A cool, maritime-influenced August supported a foundation of bright, natural acidity and slow maturity, resulting in beautifully complex flavors and aromas. Picking prior to a Labor Day heat event allowed the fruit to retain the wine’s alluring and fresh characteristic
