Tasting Notes

Beringer’s 2022 Bancroft Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon opens like a treasure chest, offering aromas of sandalwood, Spanish cedar, and sweet tobacco tinged with black licorice, clove, and dark plum. The rich palate prolongs this impression with savory and subtly sweet flavors of black cherry, dried fennel seed, and crushed allspice that parade through a lengthy finish upheld by robust, structured tannins. Utterly delectable on its own, this wine will also pair well with flavorful dishes such as curried butternut squash soup, Moroccan chicken tagine, and smash burgers.

    • Technical info
      • Vintage: 2022
      • Alcohol: 14.5%
      • Volume: 750 mL
      • Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon
      • Appellation: Howell Mountain, Napa Valley
      • Brand: Beringer Vineyards
      Vintage Notes
The first half of the 2022 harvest started calm and early, with healthy vineyards offering fruit with bright acidity, fruit-forward flavors, and strong yields for white varietals and thin-skinned reds, like Pinot Noir. Then, California experienced a historic heat wave in early September that ramped up the pace of ripening, compelling a fast and furious harvest as winemakers worked to pick fruit at its best quality. Fortunately, strong vines and proactive irrigation helped many vineyards survive the heat. The second half was much more predictable with cooler temperatures through October, so that later-ripening red varieties, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, could develop their full flavor and tannin profile.
